Quote: "I want to give light but not like the candle. I don't want to lose myself in the process... Generosity and self-preservation should be allowed together."

Helping people around you is no problem. Everybody needs help, but don't be like the candle you're going to be melting in. It's much more painful to lose yourself than to lose a person there for you. You're going to question your worth and feel abused. For that you will begin to forget how important you are. The person you gave your all will receive the love and care he / she wants, but he / she doesn't deserve. What's wrong with you? The person who gave his all that doesn't get the same amount of attention and shared with others things he / she had. I would say that many people do that in this century, being such a pest and adding too much negative to the life of someone.

We are taught to support others in need as a family culture, and with that, I strive to help as much as I could. There are many feelings in the quote I chose that I felt inside as I read it, including the discomfort as if my brain and body were responding and bringing a lot of memories inside my mind about how I thought about myself. Not only does the pain I feel apply to myself, I felt pain for others who lost themselves by helping people like what happened to me. We who give will always bring out the best we can without considering that it destroys us slowly only to satisfy the people who always take it.

There are many thoughts running inside my head. One of those thoughts is what I understand in the quote to help someone, but don't spill out all your heart, don't be like the flame, don't let yourself melt, don't get lost. There's a lot of emotions I feel inside me when I read this, and that involves reflections as well. Keep in mind how important "you" is. Always put yourself first, if helping means not minding yourself I rather not help at all. I will only have myself when the time comes where all the people who I extend my help to will forget about me.

We are taught how to live in literature. Literature, allows the reader to witness things, meet people through books, fictional character that can make them feel the same happiness and pain the narrator or author has experienced. As literature, quotes are the same thing. It can make you feel the joy of the pain felt by the speaker, the emotions poured into the quote. You can get a lot of ideas gathered by the authors from the experience and the emotions they experienced. It makes them both unique and represents culture, people and their mannerism.
